Uncovering fuel retail opportunities in Mozambique
Economic conditions are improving in Mozambique and opportunities for fuel retailers are growing.
Kalibrate’s latest market study collected data on all fuel retailers in the country and revealed that activity in the market is starting again, with 34 new fuel retail outlets under construction.
Although there are three main players who dominate in terms of number of outlets, it’s actually a smaller retailer that leads in overall market effectiveness. One successful retailer, with an outlet share of less than 5%, has maximized their potential to achieve a market share of over 10%, and a market effectiveness score of 2.25. They are extracting more from their assets and outperforming their competitors.
So, what does this mean for fuel retailers in Mozambique?
You don’t need the biggest budget or the highest number of sites to succeed. You do need to focus on improving your own market effectiveness, understanding your local consumers and competitive environment, and optimizing the 7 Elements for Fuel and Convenience Retail Success.
Selecting the right strategy, at the right sites, can drive your performance and increase your profitability — regardless of your size.
Kalibrate’s data identified that sites with convenience stores over perform compared to those that only offer fuel services ― but only 42% of fuel stations in Mozambique have a convenience store.
Kalibrate can help you select the right solution to meet the needs of your local market and boost your market share.
