Annual average daily traffic (AADT) is widely accepted to be the most accurate representation of traffic data available. Governments and other transportation departments collect and publish AADT figures on an annual basis. Usually published retrospectively, they reflect the actual traffic figures from the previous year.  

Recently, due to the costs associated with collecting data, cutbacks have been taking place and we’ve seen the frequency and coverage of published traffic counts produced by federal entities decline.
