Meet the Kalibrate team: Rich Wilcox, VP Solution Consulting and Product Lead for EV and Alternate Fuels

What’s your role at Kalibrate?

My current roles are Vice President of Solution Consulting, and Product Lead for our EV and Alternate Fuels business. My focus is ensuring that Kalibrate effectively works with current and prospective clients all over the world to understand their business needs and the challenges that they face. As part of the product team, we’re then able to develop and position data, analytics and platform-based solutions that can provide real value and ultimately enable them to make better decisions.

What does a typical day look like?

 It sounds cliché but no day is ever the same. Supporting clients in every corner of the world often means early starts and late evenings, though this isn’t quite as taxing as it sounds thanks to Kalibrate’s approach to flexible working.

Mornings often consist of meeting with clients in APAC and Europe. In the afternoon there’s more of a focus on North America. Between client calls I work closely with various teams across Kalibrate to develop innovative solutions to meet our customers’ needs, using specialised regional datasets and analytical approaches to enable clients to understand their market potential, successfully grow their business and optimize existing assets.

What do you love about your role?

I love the variety that comes with working in a truly global company. In one day, I can be working with a prospective client in Southeast Asia to develop a fuel and convenience growth strategy, projecting EV adoption and prioritising charger locations in Europe and helping a North American-based quick service restaurant retailer expand both at home and internationally.

Every day is different and challenging in its own way, and every day I learn something new. This, and the people, is what has kept me at Kalibrate for 10 years.

Why did you choose to join Kalibrate?

Kalibrate’s data-driven solutions and science is what first attracted me to the company. I wanted a role that could stretch my technical capabilities whilst working with clients, where I was empowered to make decisions and had significant opportunities for career development. Kalibrate offered this, and a whole lot more!

What do you think are the greatest challenges and opportunities facing the retail sector?

Change is the only constant in the retail sector. Many parts of the sector are unrecognisable compared to five years ago. Omnichannel offers, the emergence of new competition, changes in consumer behaviour post-COVID, sustainability drives and a shift from ICE to EV are a few of many changes that retailers are having to navigate whilst trying to grow and optimise their business. Gut feel is less effective than ever, and that’s why so many turn to Kalibrate to get objective, fact-based insights, and robust predictive modelling capabilities.
