4 top tips to increase your sales this Mother’s Day

According to NACS, Mother’s Day is the third most celebrated holiday in the US with an expected spend in 2022 of $26 billion across the country. With Mother’s Day in just 1 month (May 8) now is the time to prepare.

This Mother’s Day is the first in three years where you can celebrate it with virtually no covid restrictions, so let’s shout it from the rooftops – and celebrate the awesome moms or mom figures in our lives.

Mother’s Day is not only for the moms of the world, but many consumers are purchasing gifts for grandmothers, friends, office moms and more.

Making this day a particularly high spending occasion.

Keeping in tune with trends and occasions will excel your convenience store sales and increase your chance of happy, repeat customers.

We have included our 4 top tips on how to make sure your store is making the most out of this occasion, to keep your customers (and their moms) happy.

1.  Signage

Don’t fall into the trap of relying on a small greetings card stand at the back of the store to drive sales. Mother’s Day is an occasion that can be easily forgotten — so keep your customers in the good books with large obvious signage and relevant promotional products.

It is a well-known fact that many people get caught up in the chocolate egg eating, and Easter holiday excitement and forget that Mother’s Day is just around the corner.

With Mother’s Day only 3 weeks after Easter Sunday, being prompt with your signage change over could make a huge impact on your sales.

2.  Gifts

As far as Mother’s Day gifts go, many shoppers are looking to spend on average $220, which is $16 more than in 2020.

This leaves plenty of room for a promotional offering, perhaps a Mother’s Day pack, complete with chocolates, flowers, and a card or gift card.

A tall stand of cards positioned at the entrance of your store will be sure to catch your customer’s attention, this could be positioned next to a collection of gift cards you have on offer.  Many people prefer to get their ‘Mom’ figure a voucher on this special day so that she can spoil herself – or because they are rather last minute and forgot until they saw your stand.

Forecourt flowers should never be overlooked, with many people turning to their nearest convenience store or gas station for their last-minute gift – flowers are always an easy pleaser as well as a box of chocolates.

3.  Posting online

In-store, it is all about the POS material, but don’t forget many people are searching for your store online.

Communication is key, so letting your customers know in advance that you are there to support their Mother’s Day needs by posting online is a great way to get customers in the door.

Making an Instagram or Twitter post or having a banner on your website could increase your sales.

4.  Understanding your demographic

You may find it hard to believe, but the most important thing to your store is who your customers are.  If you don’t understand your demographic, then how do you know who to cater to?

Understanding this can allow you to be prepared for what your customers want and make customer-centric decisions. Kalibrate can help you remove the guesswork from your decision-making, with our Mass Mobile data report.
