February 2023 Canadian Petroleum Price Snapshot

We conduct a daily survey of retail gasoline, diesel, propane, and furnace fuel prices in 77 Canadian cities. Petroleum prices are available for download and display using a variety of analytic tools on our website.

Gasoline

Canadian retail unleaded price ended the month at 150.1 cents per litre, down 5.6 cents per litre lower than the end of January. All regions in Canada experienced a decline in retail gasoline prices, with the most significant drop in Atlantic Canada as prices fell over ten cents per litre. In contrast, prices along the West Coast of Canada fell the least at one cent per litre. The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s weekly petroleum report shows gasoline inventories along central and eastern parts of North America rose in February, while the West Coast experienced a decline.

Retail gasoline prices fell 5.6cpl to 150.1 in February.

Diesel

Retail diesel fuel prices in Canada experienced a significant decline in February, declining 20.7 cents per litre to 171.4 cents per litre. Like gasoline prices, all regions in Canada experienced a decrease in diesel fuel prices, with a significant decline in the Atlantic provinces at nearly fifty cents per litre. Interior areas of Canada experienced a decrease in retail diesel prices of over twenty cents per litre, while the West Coast saw a drop of nearly fourteen cents per litre. The U.S. Energy Information Administration weekly petroleum report showed distillate inventories along the East Coast in the U.S. Midwest rose in February, while the West Coast declined marginally.
