Meet the Kalibrate team: Rachel Evans, Software Engineer
At Kalibrate, we believe our success is driven as much by our people as our technology. This blog post introduces our software engineer, Rachel Evans, and gives an insight into what she brings to our business.

What’s your role at Kalibrate?
I am a software engineer. My role has a variety of responsibilities but my key purpose is to develop new features, whilst maintaining existing ones, within our suite of Kalibrate products. This ensures continuous improvement in user experience and keeps us up-to-date with the demand of the ever-changing world of E-commerce.
What does a typical day look like?
I suppose I start the day the same as anyone else, checking emails and planning tasks for the day in line with scheduled meetings. Every morning consists of a daily SCRUM meeting designed so the team can plan out any daily tasks and identify any obstacles that could impact work. The rest of the day is usually spent either working on tasks, developing new features, or providing support if an issue arises.
What do you love about your role?
The beauty of development is that no two days are the same. Problem solving is a huge part of my day and every problem is different. Technology is constantly updating which also results in developers having to constantly evolve too. Kalibrate does an amazing job at providing opportunities for developers to do this by providing access to plenty of training, conferences, and resources for learning. Personally, this is very important to me and is just one of the things that I love about my role. Similarly, I enjoy the work-life balance, culture, and flexibility.
Why did you choose to join Kalibrate?
I joined Kalibrate due to the opportunities that they provide; as mentioned above, as a developer we need to improve our technical knowledge and keep up to date with the newest technologies so we can provide the best possible solutions for our customers. Kalibrate has not only provided me with these tools but continues to encourage me to become a better developer by challenging me further and further.
Kalibrate has adapted well to the current world, we have a diverse working environment with the opportunity to work alongside people from many different cultures and countries, which is one of the most incredible experiences.
These are some of the reasons why I not only chose to join Kalibrate but the reasons I stay at Kalibrate.
What do you think are the greatest challenges and opportunities in the Kalibrate sectors?
Digital technology has become a foundational element for all industries, especially the retail industry. With the drastic rise in e-commerce, the retail world has completely evolved with changes in customer behavior and growing supply chain complexity.
I am no business expert but from a tech perspective, the biggest challenge we will face is being able to keep up with today’s technological demands. The tech industry can be very volatile, no one can predict when a new piece of technology will be introduced that could disrupt the whole industry. This brings me back to the importance of training and educational opportunities, the quicker we expand our knowledge, the quicker we can adapt.
Where do you see these markets heading?
In a technologically advancing world, the power of data is becoming increasingly important. The more data fuel retailers can accumulate on current fuel/retail pricing the better we can utilize the data to investigate upcoming trends.
