Gasoline:

Retail gasoline prices decreased 9.8 cents per litre to 167.0 in June

Canadian retail gasoline prices softened in June 2026, continuing a decline that began in mid-May. As of June 30, the national average for regular gasoline, tracked by Kalibrate Canada’s daily pump price survey, fell to 167.0 cents per litre, down 9.8 cents per litre from the end of May. The trajectory of global crude oil prices was the primary driver of gasoline prices in June 2026. The WTI spot price — the North American benchmark — fell from 87.36 $US/BBL at the end of May to 69.50 $US/BBL at the end of June, a 20.4% decline following a temporary resolution to the Middle East conflict that allowed vessel traffic to resume through the Strait of Hormuz. Despite the monthly retreat and the temporary removal of federal gasoline taxes (equivalent to 10 cents per litre), prices remained over 25 cents per litre above year-ago levels at the end of June, reflecting tighter North American gasoline inventories as refineries focused on diesel and jet fuel production this spring amid reduced global supplies due to the Middle East conflict.

All markets surveyed by Kalibrate saw retail gasoline prices decline in June, with decreases ranging from 1.6 cents per litre in Brandon, Manitoba, to as much as 29.9 cents per litre in North Bay, Ontario. Of Canada’s ten provinces, six recorded double-digit declines in June, with British Columbia posting the largest at 17.7 cents per litre. By the end of June, the cheapest gasoline price was in Chicoutimi, Quebec, at 148.6 cents per litre, while the most expensive was in Labrador City, Newfoundland, at 190.1 cents per litre. The province with the cheapest gasoline prices was Alberta, at 153.5 cents per litre, while Newfoundland had the most expensive at 186.1 cents per litre.

Diesel:

Retail diesel prices decreased 16.1 cents per litre to 189.9 in June

Canadian retail diesel prices remained elevated in June 2026, nearly 40 cents per litre higher than a year earlier, driven primarily by geopolitical disruption from the Middle East conflict and persistently high refining margins. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a consequence of the conflict in the Middle Easy, severely constrained global distillate flows and kept North American supplies tight throughout the spring as demand from abroad increased. North American distillate supplies began to increase in June as refinery activity ramped up, providing some relief to prices.

However, diesel crack spreads – the margin between crude input costs and refined diesel prices – were approximately 66.6% above the June average from a year earlier. Reflecting the tightness in distillate markets. Against this backdrop, the national retail diesel average peaked at 208.7 cents per litre in early June before easing to 189.9 cents per litre by month-end, a 16.1 cent per litre decline from the end of May.

Nearly all Kalibrate-surveyed markets posted diesel price declines in June, except in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where retail diesel prices increased 1.3 cents per litre. Provincially, Quebec posted the largest diesel price decline in June at 25.6 cents per litre, while Prince Edward Island saw the smallest decline, at 9.2 cents per litre.

Overall, at the end of June, the lowest diesel price was observed in Lloyminster, Alberta at 161.9 cents per litre, while the highest was found in Val d’Or, Quebec, at 215.9 cents per litre. The province with the lowest diesel prices at the end of June was Alberta, at 167.0 cents per litre, while the most expensive province was Quebec, with an average price of 210.5 cents per litre.
